Slow Tongued Beauty, Worms in Women and Cattle, & King Darves @ The Alamo (2011)
Straight outta Philly (after a few years in the NB area), fucken Slow Tongued Beauty. My only complaint, it wasn't long enough.
Next up, out of Providence, RI, Worms in Women and Cattle, sounding evil as shit. Yeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhh.
And to finish off the show, the always-awesome King Darves:

3Jane & Screaming Females @ The Court Tavern (2011)
This show was a double-header, but I only managed to catch 2 sets before running out of battery power again, but I think I caught the best.
First up: 3Jane
And, of course, New Brunswick legends, the Screaming Females.
It's a damn shame that this is all I got from this show. Every part of it ruled balls.

Gene Pick, Five Mask, & The Fabulous Mummies (2011)
I spent the first half of the Halloween down in Baltimore and while I was there, managed to catch part of the show at America//Club Mutant in Baltimore, and this is what I got:
Gene Pick (QC out of Philly)
Five Mask (Door)
and The Fabulous Mummies
I know I missed some shit, but my battery doesn't last forever. Sorry, y'all. Shit's still awesome.

Spread Eagle & Veiled @ The Little Bar (2011)
These two sets were recorded on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the Little Bar in Philadelphia.
First up, Spread Eagle out of Baltimore. They felt like a long drive with a hangover. I mean that in a good way. I fucking loved it.
And, although I usually try to avoid posting the same band twice in a row, I couldn't help myself. Here's Veiled again:

Veiled, Horse Eggs, & Human Adult Band @ The Court Tavern (2011)
First up, out of Philadelphia, PA and Barcelona, Spain, here's Veiled:
Next, what was supposed to be Mirrors and Wires morphed into Horse Eggs, which was, according to them, "most of the dudes that played in Mirrors and Wires all together at once," with Jay Insult picking up a guitar and microphone for the last few songs:
Fucking finally. It took years, but finally I caught the Human Adult Band covering the Monster Mash. Every other time my battery dies but I finally got it.

Case Study, The Bewilderness, & The Vandelles @ The Loft (2011)
Recorded October 14, 2011 at the Loft... Unfortunately, I managed to get lost going somewhere I've been dozens of times before, so this is only the last 5 or so minutes of Case Study's set. Expect more from them in the future...
From the ashes of the Invincible Gods, these dudes went straight into The Bewilderness, which is where they left all of us after this whiskey-fueled set of rock'n'drool.
And coming out from Brooklyn, down a member, The Vandelles fucking killed it. Heavy drumming and face-melting rock'n'roll was the theme of the night. YYYEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHH.

This was a nice small show behind the Random Tea Room in Philadelphia, PA on October 8, 2011... Starting off, again, with members of The Yets, Jalopy, & Mike Bruno's Black Magic Family Band is The Winners:
Next up was The Jovontaes out of Kentucky:
Then, from Philly, The Traits:
And finally, Trevor Transylvania doing a few songs by the Human Adult Band:

July 31, 2011.
Holy shit. This is fucking rock and roll. Midnight Creeps out of Providence, RI. Cripplingly awesome. Needed crutches just to get through it. Again, Holy shit.
And once again, a New Brunswick staple, Slaw, rockin' out, sweat flowing, tearin' it up:

I only managed to catch part of this show from July 30, 2011, but the stairs at this place aren't very crutches friendly, but dammit, I tried.
First up, from New Brunswick, The Grains:
Next, from Illinois, Nighty Night:
My apologies to the other bands that played, I wanted to catch the rest of it, but my body wouldn't allow it.

MV & EE and King Darves, Live at Tumulty's (2011)
After a few changes of venue and dates, this show finally happened, and damn did it rule. I'll post the reason everyone's reading this post first and go with Matt Valentine and Erika Elder, AKA MV&EE
And, of course, the king himself, King Darves killed it, electric style:
Sadly, there is no footage of the Kohoutek set, and the Pots and Powercells video is still on its way to the internets, but to make up for it, here's a minute of us goofin' off after the show in an alleyway. Also, farewell to Caitlin of Pots & Powercells, and best of luck in Texas. It won't be the same without the powerpot.

MV EE (Ecstatic Peace / Three Lobed Records)
"in fact still orbiting the earth in vermont is matt 'mv' valentine, once the brawn of the tower recordings, and erika 'ee' elder, the CEO of Heroine Celestial Agriculture/The MV & EE Medicine Show, together with their dog zuma they run the child of microtones terran library of exploratory music and sing songs with fellow avatars 'the golden road'. sometimes their own lunar blues, som...etimes fingerstyle noise/space, sometimes lonesome frontier volk...always environments. you will find many are one and they like to jam together within many guitar dimensions/amp realms...respectfully and yours as free folk." Note: Albums on Thurston Moore’s (Sonic Youth) label, Ecstatic Peace. J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr) plays lead guitar on some of their records!
King Darves (De stijl Records)
"So i would imagine that youd have one look at the photo of King Darves we have here and think "Oh brother! Another guy with a beard getting over what looks like a bad case of the clap and an acoustic guitar. Wheres my axe?" so were not gonna put it up here. (Mystique, dig?) But its really not like that, i tell you! The bedrock of King Darves New Brunswick based concoction is certainly folk based but theres no headband and hes not singing of pixies in the moss. This is somewhere between rolled cigs and the foggy vision of Big Pink from somewhere on Jersey Avenue, or maybe a one-manned Meat Puppets. This kid has really cobbled something together in his kitchen sink! ...the prettiest sound of his deep, rich voice will make you tap yr toes and nod yr head like a little Jersey Goil." - Tony Rettman.
Kohoutek (Prophase Records)
"People interested in music that defies the pop song convention, music that challenges that part of your brain that lies dormant during most aural experiences, need a band like Washington DC’s Kohoutek. This quintet began their wildly meandering journey across the more peripheral realms of free-form psych rock a few years back and from the very beginning they seemed determined to try to cross swathes of interstellar drone, guitar squall and loose, slowly evolving improvisations of drum and bass grooves and squelchy electronics with tapestries of gravitationally flowing darkness. What we get is a sonic bag that is raw, gorgeous, loud, dreamy, dissonant and mystical at the same time, somehow managing to transcend all sorts of seemingly limited genre barriers. Dedicated followers of bands such as the Spacious Mind, SubArachnoid Space and Ash Ra Tempel will for sure want to check these cats out, with a musical style that at its best rarely goes wrong in the live setting." -Mats Gustafsson
Pots & Powercells (dihd/Log Cabin Recordings)
It's hard to say whether Pots & Powercells rose out of the ashes of the dispersed members of experimental street performing act, Buckets & Batteries, or if they're merely in the same mindset; 'space adaptive music' making. Powercells started in the fall of 2009 and has played under a local NJ transit bridge with Finnish sound artist, Kuupuu and performed a set at Avant Fairfax Festival 2010 in Fairfax, VA. Powercells also has released a handful of homespun cassettes and cd-rs.
Members of the Human Adult Band, Mike Bruno and the Black Magic Family Band, Pact of Wolves, The Yets, and several other one-off New Brunswick projects regularly jam with the band, and the rotating cast of characters means you're unlikely to seem the same style jam twice.

Shameless Self Promoting
Here's a set from 1/22/11; almost a month behind in posting this but it was filmed by to cameras so there's some fancy video tricks here.
First off Ryanay featuring myself and Joemazing (of Brown Christmas fame).
The full set is viewable on the youtubes www.youtube.com/basementsetcetera
Next myself performing as Chalk Harmonica Vibe. One of only a few solo performances I've done, also the first one done using my usual set up of electronic rather than acoustic instruments.
More of this at www.youtube.com/thebrownchristmas
Initially I thought I would only be playing a solo set, however once I realized Joemazing would be in attendance we decided to do an impromptu performance as The Brown Christmas.
and while I'm promoting my own crap...
Check out The Brown Christmas's new album; Subversive Materials www.thebrownchristmas.bandcamp.com
featuring some of the harshest synthesizer work Todd has ever done with The Brown Christmas.

Neo-Slowjisms (2011)
Here's a very special Valentines Day performance from Neo Slowjisms, a band formed moments before this set featuring myself and K. The name came from a mishearing of words and then a concept was developed for what kind of experience we wanted to give the audience: imagine using these to jerk it.
The carrot pretty much says it all.
Anyway we were going to write some lyrics but the pen we had didn't work and we were writting on a wet bar napkin. So this is what happened.

Ryanay (2011)
We've posted some of his live stuff before, but this was recorded at a bookstore... how's that for indie cred?... (I gotta stop writing these descriptions after going out to a bar to drink)... Again, here's Ryanay, doing what he does best:... doing what he does... best...?
